Driven by passion
Lauren Kay is a UK-based Art Psychotherapist (HCPC/BAAT certified) and a Somatic practitioner whose work centres on inclusive, trauma and attachment based creative practice.
Born in Glasgow and raised in West Dunbartonshire- an area historically affected by high levels of deprivation- Lauren’s practice is informed by lived experience of disability, social inequality, and non-linear educational pathways.
Born with Erb’s Palsy, Lauren developed an early understanding of accessibility, adaptation, and resilience of character. Art became a vital means of expression and regulation from a young age, later shaping her decision to pursue a career supporting others through creative and non-verbal approaches.
Despite leaving school without strong academic attainment, she progressed through art education and completed a Master’s degree in Art Psychotherapy. During her Masters training, she was diagnosed with dyslexia, further strengthening her commitment to accessible, inclusive learning environments.
Lauren has recently transitioned from working within children’s residential care settings in Manchester as an Art Psychotherapist to freelance practice based in Stockport and continues trauma-informed, participatory arts projects that prioritise community voice, skill-building, and long-term impact.
Her work focuses on engaging individuals who are often under-represented in arts provision, creating sustainable creative spaces that build confidence, connection, and capacity beyond the lifespan of funded projects.
