Monthly Men's Walk — Guided Hikes with Xander Munro & George Wright
Liability Waiver & Terms and Conditions
A Breathing Space runs a monthly half-day guided walk, most often in the Peak District, for men to get outdoors together and support their mental health and wellbeing. Please read this document carefully and sign before joining a walk.
1. About the Walk
Format: a half-day guided walk (approx. 3–4 hours on the hills, plus travel), typically in the Peak District. Exact routes, meeting points and start times are confirmed ahead of each monthly walk.
Guides: walks are led by Xander Munro and/or George Wright, or another nominated leader from A Breathing Space.
Terrain: Peak District routes can include uneven, steep, muddy, rocky or exposed ground, and moorland with limited phone signal. Weather can change quickly.
This is a peer-support and wellbeing walk, not a substitute for medical or mental health treatment. If you are in crisis or need urgent support, please contact emergency services or a mental health helpline directly.
2. Assumption of Risk
Walking in hill and moorland terrain carries inherent risks, including but not limited to: slips, trips and falls; adverse or changing weather; sudden ground and terrain changes; fatigue, dehydration or exposure; and getting lost or separated from the group. By taking part, you acknowledge these risks and agree to take part at your own risk.
3. Health Declaration
By signing this form, you confirm that:
You consider yourself fit enough to complete a half-day hike over hilly/moorland terrain.
You have disclosed to the walk leader any medical condition, injury, medication, or mental health condition that could reasonably affect your ability to take part safely, or that the leader should be aware of in an emergency.
You will tell the walk leader immediately if you feel unwell, unsafe, or unable to continue during the walk.
You attend at your own risk and it is your responsibility to seek advice from a GP or healthcare professional if you are unsure whether you're fit to take part.
4. Liability Waiver
In consideration of being permitted to take part in this walk, I agree that:
A Breathing Space, its walk leaders (including Xander Munro and George Wright), volunteers and organisers will not be held liable for any injury, illness, loss, or damage to person or property arising from my participation, except where caused by their proven negligence.
I am responsible for my own personal belongings, equipment and valuables brought on the walk.
I am responsible for arranging my own travel/transport to and from the meeting point, unless told otherwise for a specific walk.
I am responsible for having any personal or travel insurance I consider necessary; A Breathing Space does not provide personal accident or medical insurance for participants.
This waiver does not affect any rights that cannot be excluded or limited under UK law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, where such exclusion is not permitted by law.
5. What to Bring
Suitable outdoor clothing for the weather, and sturdy walking boots/shoes.
Waterproofs, a warm layer, water and snacks/lunch appropriate for a half-day out.
Fully charged mobile phone.
Any personal medication (e.g. inhaler, EpiPen) you may need during the walk.
A Breathing Space can advise on kit for first-timers — just ask the walk leader beforehand.
6. Terms and Conditions
Booking & Cost
Places are booked in advance via A Breathing Space and may be limited by group size.
Any walk fee (if applicable) and payment/refund terms will be confirmed at the time of booking.
Cancellations & Changes
A Breathing Space reserves the right to cancel, shorten, reroute or postpone a walk at any time due to weather, ground conditions, safety concerns, or leader availability.
Please give as much notice as possible if you need to cancel your place, so it can be offered to someone else.
Conduct
Please follow the walk leader's instructions at all times, particularly around pace, route and safety decisions.
Be respectful of other participants. This is a supportive, non-judgemental space — what's shared on the walk stays on the walk.
The walk leader may ask a participant to turn back or leave the group if their behaviour puts themselves or others at risk.
Dogs
Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome on most walks, but please check with the walk leader in advance, as this may vary by route (e.g. livestock/access restrictions).
Photography & Social Media
Photos or short videos may be taken during the walk for A Breathing Space's social media, website or promotional materials.
If you do not wish to be photographed or would prefer not to be identifiable, please let the walk leader know before the walk starts.
